Why swap from shaving to waxing?
Are you fed up with the daily faff of shaving – 1-day stubble, shaving rash and nicks? We hear you. But if you’re considering swapping from shaving to waxing, winter is the best time to take the plunge.
Although last-minute waxing is always popular before the summer holidays, at Tej & Co we actually recommend switching in winter because you need 4-6 consistent treatments for long-lasting results. Hair grows in cycles, and it’s important to work with your hair growth cycle, giving it time to grow. By the summer, you’ll show off baby smooth, hair-free skin and thank us!
Established over twenty years ago, Tej & Co has become the leading destination for all things hair removal, and we are passionate about the positive benefits of effective hair removal for body confidence. We understand that waxing has a reputation for being painful, so we will do our best to put you at ease and help you ditch the quick-fix razor for good.
Winter is the perfect time to swap from shaving to waxing

You can let hairs grow longer when covered up more.
Years of shaving affect the hair growth cycle, which grows back at different lengths. Waxing can break that cycle, but only when the hair is given time to grow between waxes – and is long enough to wax. Winter is the perfect time to let hair grow longer before your first wax because we’re all hibernating under thick tights and jeans– no one will know!
Smoother finish and longer hair-free in-between periods.
Let’s talk hair growth cycles. The best time to get a wax is during the first phase of your hair growth cycle (anagen). But if you get your wax during the last phase (telogen), the results won’t last as long because the new anagen hair is already poking its way through. For long-lasting results, you need 4-6 treatments over a consistent period to catch the hair at the perfect anagen phase.
Eventually, you will get rid of all your shaving stubble, and all your hair will come through at once instead of at different times.
So please don’t leave swapping from shaving to waxing to the last minute before your holiday!
Reduced hair growth
Years of shaving results in thicker and coarser hair. Waxing helps break the cycle by removing hair at the root and weakening the hair follicle. If you wax regularly, not just over the summer, the follicles don’t get a chance to recover, and over time, your hair will grow back finer and lighter with fewer ingrown hairs. Think of it as part of your monthly maintenance routine, like keeping on top of split ends or highlights.
Hairs grow back softer and finer.
We know it’s tempting to shave if you have a big event coming up with a fabulous new dress; try not to undo all your good work. Shaving cuts off the hair at the skin, leaving a blunt, sharp tip; it targets hair above the skin’s surface, which can lead to irritation as the hair grows back. Waxing removes the hair at the root, so it takes longer to grow back and is much softer and finer. Walk away from the shaver.

Regular waxing is less painful.
Perhaps you have heard scare stories about brutal Brazilians – no wonder you are nervous about swapping. One-off waxing can be painful due to coarser hair after years of shaving; your skin will probably be drier as shaving removes the top layers. But regular waxing is less painful because the hairs are finer; the more you wax, the less painful it becomes.
But it must be done right with the best quality wax and aftercare for a comfortable experience. At Tej & Co, we pride ourselves on using Outback Organic hypoallergenic, vegan-friendly wax free from synthetic colouring, fragrance, parabens, and harsh ingredients. Our hair removal skills are honed from years of experience, and we specialise in techniques to minimise the ouch factor for a more comfortable waxing experience.
You’ll wonder why you didn’t swap from shaving to waxing years ago.
Redheads love waxing!
Unfortunately, laser hair removal is not suitable for everyone, but waxing is an ideal, affordable alternative for redheads. No one misses out on hair removal at Tej & Co.
TEJ & CO WAXING AFTERCARE – Ingrown hairs don’t stand a chance
We’re all guilty of hibernating over winter and neglecting body exfoliation, but dead skin can lead to coarse ingrown hairs on the bikini, legs and underarms.
Regular exfoliation after waxing removes excess skin cells past their sell-by date on the surface, allowing hairs to push out of the skin more easily. We recommend once a fortnight in between waxes and waiting at least 4-5 days before a waxing appointment.
Even though fewer people see your legs over winter, it’s surprising how baby-smooth skin makes you feel more confident and puts a spring in your step.
