We’re talking about electrolysis and answering some of the common questions we get asked about it. This includes who it’s most suitable for and how long it takes to carry out a treatment.
Electrolysis is a very popular choice amongst our clients and here’s why:
Electrolysis is suitable for all hair colours
Electrolysis is one of the most effective hair removal methods for long lasting results regardless of hair colour.
Laser hair removal is a fantastic treatment too but only works on dark hair. Electrolysis can help anyone regardless of hair colour or hair type so we recommend it to all of the clients who are unsuitable for laser. Red, ginger, white and grey hairs can all be removed effectively with electrolysis.
Electrolysis consultation and getting to the root of the issue.
It’s very important for us to assess hair and skin type at the start of treatment and a detailed consultation is the first step in the process.
Excess hair growth can be due to a number of reasons such as polycystic ovary syndrome or PCO’s which is caused by hormonal imbalance and can cause hair to grow in unwanted areas such as the face or areola. We need to find out the root cause of the problem before we begin treatment.
Cycle of hair growth is the key to electrolysis
We work with the natural cycle of hair growth to achieve maximum results which is another reason why we insist on a pre-treatment consultation. In order to get the best results for our clients we must first meet with them to look at their hair and find out what they are hoping to achieve from treatment.
We look for indications of the stage of hair growth so we can work with the body’s natural growth cycle so it’s important that hair has been given the opportunity to grow and hasn’t been shaved, waxed or plucked.
Treatment plan for electrolysis
Electrolysis treats one individual hair follicle at a time, so it takes longer to treat large areas on your face or body. Treatments are planned and quoted based upon the amount of time it will take to treat the whole area which can be anything from 5 minutes to 60 minutes per session. Electrolysis is safe and effective for any skin colour or hair colour, so it’s great for people with blonde, red, grey, or white hairs that don’t respond as well to laser hair removal.
Transgender clients
Tej & Co is a transgender friendly clinic and supports clients with gender dysphoria. We use electrolysis as the main form of hair removal for the face as male hair follicles are slightly deeper than female due to the density of the epidermis. Electrolysis is particularly effective for the upper lip, chin, cheeks and neck areas and clients who are transitioning from male to female are keen to maintain a smooth, hair-free face.
Peri-menopause and menopause
During the peri-menopause and the menopause, women can suffer the effects of hormonal changes with both changes in skin and also problems with unwanted hair. Electrolysis is a very effective hair removal method for all skin types, regardless of hair colour and works well for hair removal on the face, upper lip, cheeks and neck.
