Teen skincare and the power of influencers.
We all get influenced, but when it comes to teen skincare we need to approach these influencer videos and adverts with a little caution. The teenage body is going through a process of physical change; transitioning from child to adult, which inevitably brings with it changes.
Some may notice they put on weight for a short period of time, for example, while others will grow so quickly in height, they become very slim. The same goes with the skin. Some may notice they develop spots, sometimes they develop quickly and can even give the effect of acne. Except it won’t always be acne.
This is the time when influencer chat and videos should be approached for entertainment value rather than medical skincare advice. What works for one person won’t work for another, and did you know you could end up causing problems to your skin in the long run?
Mother nature has it all worked out for us. Skin will heal and protect itself when its injured or damaged for example with a cut or burn. When the skin is out of balance or ‘unhappy’ it will tell us through spots, redness, inflammation or tightness.
We can help guide you through this process and educate you on how to protect the skin barrier, which will in turn heal the skin and keep it strong and looking its best. You don’t need to overhaul your routine, add in lots of new products or start using more advanced treatments which are often only recommended for mature skin.

Hormones
Teenage skin will break-out from time to time as it adjusts to fluctuating hormones and the impact that may have on the pH moisture levels within the skin. Excess oil can be common and may cause spots, but this doesn’t mean you will always suffer with spots.
There is a big difference between teenage spots and full-blown acne which is a predisposed skin condition that not all people will suffer with.
The Pill
At one time the oral contraceptive pill was handed out regularly to females suffering with irregular periods or spots and acne. It was seen as a solution for a multitude of problems, we now know to be perfectly normal stages of female development.
It’s important to enable the reproductive system to develop fully and often the best way for it to do this, is to let Mother Nature do her work.
Influencer Trends
Influencer trends are fun and easy to watch but use them for the entertainment they are offering rather than advice. Just like our finger prints, our skin types are unique to us and what works for one person, may not work for you.
Sometimes we can learn this the hard way, either by wasting money on products that don’t work or even by exasperating a minor skin problem and making it much worse by treating it incorrectly.
