Skincare consultations not only enable us to meet you face to face, if you’ll pardon the pun, they also allow us to properly assess your skin in order to prescribe the correct treatment to you.
We are seeing more and more cases where people have become bamboozled with the sheer number of products available on the market, as well as the volume of treatments which are now available. People are quite rightly confused about where to start, or in some cases, purchasing the wrong products or treatments for their skin type.
Using the wrong products or treatments can sometimes have the exact opposite effect, causing skin to react, and sometimes problems to develop. It can be a costly mistake to make which is why we are so passionate about offering full consultations before beginning any treatment programme.
One of the biggest buzz words we hear banded around is ‘Actives’ and the number of actives you can use, what you can use them alongside or how you can layer them, and of course, which skin type they are suitable for. It can be difficult to know where to start with it all and also know where to find the correct information.
A crash course in actives
Actives are in essence the activating ingredients in the products you’re using. Whether that’s a Vitamin C or Vitamin A, a hyaluronic acid or niacinamide. They’re the ingredients in a product which address the skin concern they have been purchased for.
From spots and acne, to uneven texture, dryness and ageing, there really is a product for everything, but it’s important to use the product that is right for your skin. The skin is a little bit like a fingerprint; totally unique to you, so finding the right products can be tricky and sometimes overwhelming. Often it becomes a process of elimination, testing and trying out the products until you find the one that works for you.
Sometimes this means your skin reacts first as it absorbs products which don’t suit. Other times you might try a product which doesn’t seem to have any effect at all.
Actives and the skin barrier
If the skin barrier has become compromised products won’t always penetrate the skin in the way they would if the skin was in optimum condition. This leads people to believe products aren’t working. I know I bang on about it but the secret to healthy skin lies in the skin barrier. I truly believe this and I have many clients who can testify, that restoring the skin barrier brings harmony to the skin.
Treatment times
We’re all in a hurry aren’t we? To get to where we need to go, to be able to get online to shop, reach our destination, to get a result. This can lead us to be dead set on trying the next wonder product or something that’s worked well for a friend and is recommended. I totally get that.
Tej and Co probably works in the total opposite way to many, in that we don’t proclaim to be able to offer a quick fix. Our results take time, but anything worth doing does take time. We’ve been in this business long enough to know that overnight miracles rarely happen, and if we are able to give out clients long-term, sustainable results, then our job has been done well.

Our home care programmes are just as important as in clinic treatments and can make a big difference to your skin. We are then able to enhance the results further with treatments in the clinic if desired and required.
