The weather is getting cooler and we’re heading towards winter so now’s the best time to update your skincare routine.
We all swap our wardrobes around at the end of the season, changing summer clothes for woolly jumpers and wet weather coats but have you ever thought about your skin? This year we’re making it our mission to encourage our clients to update their skincare routine for winter.
It makes sense when you think about it. Hot summer days bring with them the need for mattifying moisturisers to reduce the shine or targeted spot treatments for helping with excess sebum which can lead to acne and other oily skin problems.
Then the winter comes and the days get colder. You may notice that your lips start to feel chapped, your hands may feel drier and you might get red cheeks which are so common in winter. Just as you protect your hands from the cold with gloves and your neck with a scarf it’s time to think about your skin barrier too.
It’s amazing what a difference it can make when you protect the skin barrier and provide it with nourishing products that really care for and protect the delicate skin on the face and hands. Corneotherapy is the process we use to analyse and assess the skin. It forms the first stage of any skin treatment we offer in the clinic and allows us to assess the skin for damage and build an effective process for treating the underlying cause of any issues.
Winter marks the start of a time when many people can visibly see the effects of sun damage on their skin. It’s a time of year when your skin naturally needs more love and care and treatments which will nourish and protect it. There have been many studies carried out which look at the barrier function of the skin in summer and winter and the environmental changes which can impact on the skin.
While skin barrier damage isn’t noticeable initially in time it can lead to tightness, dryness and redness, and general discomfort to the skin. Add to that any sudden drops in temperature, ice, or snow or that long awaited winter ski trip, and you’re almost guaranteed to notice an effect on the skin – even if you generally have a good skin type.
Skin Treatments
We recommend our advanced skincare treatments during the winter months when UV exposure is lower and skin can be a little more protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Laser skin rejuvenation, micro-needling, and radio frequency are all treatments we recommend during the winter months.

We also help to increase hydration levels in the skin by using products that regulate the skin’s natural moisture pH levels to protect and repair a damaged skin barrier. Here are some of our best loved products which bring excellent results and are rated very highly by our clients.

Dermaviduals cleanser
As always we recommend a gentle yet effective cleanser to take the day off and clean the skin before bedtime or at the start of the day. We have a Cleansing Milk and a Bespoke Cleanser which are both excellent for a number of skin types.
Dermaviduals Moisturiser
The Dermaviduals range of classic creams help the skin to feel supple and protected. They are light and nourishing but without the heaviness that can occur with some moisturisers. The structure of the Dermaviduals moisturisers is chemically and physically very similar to the skin’s natural barrier so they are an excellent choice for all skin types.

Dermaviduals Prescriptive Serums and Moisturisers
The Gold standard of skin care and tailor made for each client’s individual skin texture and type. These products contain over 30 active ingredients and bring with them excellent results.
Dermaviduals SPF skin cream
It goes without saying that we recommend a good, separate SPF to all of our clients, all year round. Not only will it protect skin now, but in future years when the delicate membrane isn’t as strong and hormonal effects can have an additional impact.
