Celebrating International Women’s Day & building confidence

It’s International Women’s Day this month, which celebrates the achievements of women all over the World. It promotes equality and raises awareness of discrimination, and as a woman in business, I celebrate and support this day, and promote self-confidence and the development of skills within my team.

Tej & Co Stourbridge has always supported women and their quest for equality. Many of our clients are successful people in business, mothers balancing home and family life and young girls who are studying and making their way in the World.

Confidence has a big impact on all of us as people. It affects how we feel about ourselves and how we view the World around us. I work very hard on my own self-confidence and have various parts of my routine which are dedicated to health and well-being.

I work out regularly – which believe it or not didn’t begin until I was 40, I have addressed and solved many of the skin issues which affected my younger years. These days I feel happy and confident in just my own skin and only use a tinted moisturiser on the odd occasion. Something I never thought I’d do!

Exercise

It’s an oldie but a goodie! We all know that working out makes you feel better but when the cold winter nights draw in it can be hard to build motivation. If you find it hard to stay motivated then find a group. There are numerous fitness groups and classes at gyms and fitness centres. You could even take up a team sport you loved as a child such as netball or hockey, or join a running group so you can run alongside friends and motivate each other. Like I said above, I didn’t begin to exercise regularly until I was 40. These days I like to lift weights and always make sure I include exercise in my regular routine.

Skincare

Developing and maintaining a good skincare routine will help you feel more confident in make-up, when you enter a meeting or when you go out for dinner with your partner or friends. If you have skincare issues or things you don’t feel confident about come and speak to us. Book a free consultation so we can help you with tricks and techniques to help break any bad habits and introduce effective techniques which will nourish and care for you and your skin.

Sleep

Sleep is one of the most underrated beauty secrets of all. It doesn’t cost a penny but the effect of a good night of sleep can have a dramatic impact on the skin, how you feel and your mental well-being and focus. Make sure you turn off any devices at least two hours before bedtime and avoid charging electronic devices in your bedroom as this can disturb your sleeping pattern too. We recommend a warm bath, a good book and a camomile tea for a restful night’s sleep.

Personally I am an early bird. Early to bed and early to rise. It means I can get through my to do list while I am still fresh and energised. Evenings are for wind down and relaxation.

But come and see us in the clinic first so we can assess your situation and make proper recommendation based upon your hair and skin consultation.

Perspective

Now, this is a slightly different one, but I think it’s really important. Perspective. It can be difficult to see things with a balanced view when you’re focussing on negatives. We often see clients who are struggling with unwanted hair or have skin concerns. Sometimes they have had to build up the courage to come and see us over a period of many many months.

Naturally this then means they have given the particular issue a lot of thought; perhaps even more thought than it really needed. This is all very natural of course but I think it can be really useful to take a bit of a step back. During the consultation process for hair removal or skin care, we support clients and give them a realistic plan to enable them to reach their goals.

One of the most important things we talk about is perspective and how we often view ourselves with the most critical eyes. Both women and men can be hyper critical of themselves particularly when they are feeling self-conscious.

We can be our own worst critics at times and we need to really bring our awareness back to this fact and accept it. Once you have an awareness of an issue you are half way to breaking the negative though cycle and gaining a fresh perspective.
